28“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light”
Matthew 11:28-30
This past Sunday I preached a sermon on the very important idea to sabbath. Sabbath is not just a moment, a day, or a year, rather, it is a way of life. Sabbath may be better understood as sabbath-ing because it is in the doing that we truly find rest. Jesus seems to know that the biggest impediment to finding true rest lies in our inability to let go of distractions and false securities. This is one of the hardest things about being a disciple of Jesus! What heavy burdens are you carrying that need to be removed? What are you chasing that is giving you a false sense of life and rest? Where are you centered?
To help answer the above questions I want to recommend two books about sabbath and rest.
