Every single member is someone’s son or someone’s daughter. Like a parent, a leader is responsible for their precious lives.
Leaders Eat Last.
By: Simon Sinek
As vestry you share with me in what Simon Sinek calls the awesome responsibility. In his book Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t, Sinek shares the story of a leader in a company who attends a wedding and has an “Aha” moment that is the quote above. For leaders in the church our first simple job is to step back and realize the great gift we have been entrusted with. In 1 Timothy, Paul outlines the qualifications of a leader which boil down to compassion, vision, and empathy. These are all things that we as leaders must instill in the parish and model for the parish. We do it because of the awesome responsibility we were given when we were called to become vestry members. Take some time to imagine what this looks like in your role as a vestry member.
